From Shower Thought to Podcast: The Journey Behind "That's a Wrap! What's Next?"
Hello, readers and podcast listeners! Welcome to my first "That's a wrap" blog post! Today, I’m thrilled to share the story behind the creation of my podcast, "That's a Wrap! What's Next?" – a platform designed to support and uplift emerging artists across film, theatre, acting and music. It’s a tale that began with a seemingly mundane moment but evolved into a passion project that I’m deeply excited about.

With that said, here is my telling of how and why the podcast came about! 🎬
1. The spark of inspiration
Like many of us, I often find that my most profound ideas come during the most unexpected times. For me, it was in the shower, my favourite place. I don't even remember what day it was, but out of nowhere, the idea for the podcast emerged. I knew I always wanted to have some form of online presence but never had the right idea in mind. That day I had been reflecting on my own experiences in the arts and thinking about the challenges faced by emerging artists and then It struck me – there was a significant gap in support and networking opportunities for film/music/acting school graduates, you have years of support and suddenly it can feel like you've just been thrown in the deep end and the only entertaining/affordable guide is youtube interviews with seemingly unattainable Hollywood stars *me binging interviews with Jenna Ortega interviews*
2. The Challenges Emerging Artists Face
Emerging artists often face an uphill battle. Breaking into the competitive worlds of film, theatre and music is no easy feat. Your job is constantly trying to prove that you are good at your job. Beyond the need for talent and perseverance, there’s the daunting task of building connections, finding mentors, and navigating the industry’s complex landscape. It became clear to me that many creative individuals (like myself) could benefit from a space where they felt understood and supported, and where they could connect with other people who are in a similar situation. Because we all love listening to famous actors telling us about their most recent experiences in Hollywood but sometimes it can make our dreams feel so very far away.
3. Crafting the Vision
From that initial shower thought, I began to envision a podcast that could serve as a source of hope and a practical resource for emerging artists. I wanted "That's a Wrap! What's Next?" to be a podcast about our progress, struggles and funny stories, I wanted it to be a community. The idea was to provide valuable content, such as relatable interviews with people who are just starting out in the industry, insightful interviews with industry professionals, practical advice, inspiring stories of perseverance and a few jokes on the side.
The Journey to Launch
Turning the idea into reality involved several key steps because... I had no idea how to run a podcast :
Research and Planning: I started by researching existing podcasts and platforms to understand what was missing and how I could offer something unique. I spent hours outlining the format, potential guests, and the core message of the podcast.
Building a Team: The team started out with my Dad, a few very supportive friends and myself. As I began to post, some very passionate and kind people offered to join me and I couldn't be more grateful. From an assistant planner, assistant editor and designer, having a dedicated team has been making a world of difference.
Creating Content: With a clear vision and a fantastic team, we began recording episodes. Luckily, thanks to some acting school friends who run "The Brittany and Beter Bodcast" I had located my podcast studio! So it was straight to recording and uploading. Each conversation with guests who had recently graduated, similarly to myself was both educational, inspiring and hilarious.
Launching and Growing: The launch was a mix of excitement and nervous anticipation. I was starting from zero and knew that this would be a long journey. We worked on creating a strong online presence and engaging with our audience through social media and a DIY bedroom cover art photo with my creative and very patient friend Melanie Brosnan. It was very uplifting to see how quickly the podcast resonated with emerging artists!
The Impact and Future
Since launching, "That's a Wrap! What's Next?" has grown into a beautiful little community of emerging artists and industry professionals. The feedback we’ve received has been heart warmingly positive, and it’s been incredibly rewarding to hear that people are finding the episodes inspiring and relatable.
Looking ahead, I’m excited about the future of the podcast. We plan to expand our guest roster, explore new topics, and continue building a supportive network for artists at various stages of their careers. My hope is that "That's a Wrap! What's Next?" will become a go-to resource for anyone looking to make their mark in the arts.
Final Thoughts
What started as a simple thought in the shower has blossomed into something much bigger than I planned for 2024. "That's a Wrap! What's Next?" is a testament to the power of following your passion and the impact that a supportive community can have. Thank you to everyone that's given it a listen so far – remember that there’s always a place where you can find the support and opportunities you need.
Thank you for joining me on this wild journey. I can’t wait to see what’s next!
See you next episode!
